Roskomnadzor launched its Telegram channel

Roskomnadzor has created an official channel in the Telegram messenger. This was reported on the Roskomnadzor Twitter account.

The supervisory authority began publishing information about its own activities, inspections of IT companies in its Telegram channel. The channel has almost 5 thousand subscribers so far and about a dozen news in the feed.

“We thought about it and decided: if it is more convenient for you to read Roskomnadzor news on Telegram, then you should have such an opportunity,” the ministry said in a statement.

Since April 2018, Roskomnadzor has blocked Telegram in Russia for refusing to provide the FSB with information to decrypt messages (the so-called encryption keys). Only in June 2020, the department, in agreement with the Prosecutor General’s Office, lifted restrictions on access to the messenger.

This happened after the co-founder of the service Pavel Durov “expressed his readiness to counter terrorism and extremism,” the Roskomnadzor said in a statement. According to Durov’s data, 30 million people in Russia use the fast message service.
